According to Gulf News, Muscat Municipality has warned the city's residents that if they hang their clothes outside to dry on the balconies, they will be fined from 50 to 5 thousand Omani Rials and up to 6 months. may face up to imprisonment. The notification issued in this regard reminded residents to comply with Article (32) of Local Order No. 92/23, which regulates the organization of buildings in the governorate and outlines requirements for drying laundry on balconies. municipal rules prohibit hanging laundry on balconies without the installation of covering elements. The municipality insists that the clothes must be covered with one of two elements, a "mashrabiya" or wooden net with holes not larger than 1.50 cm x 1.50 cm or a concrete opening. Work with holes not exceeding 7 cm and a depth of at least 10 cm. Additionally, any residential building for more than 3 units must provide one balcony for each unit, depending on the construction conditions of the unit, and cover these balconies with one of the approved materials or elements. However, the use of metal mesh as a covering element is prohibited, violation of these regulations will result in a fine, as stipulated in Article No. 14 of the Muscat Municipality Law. It said that residents who hang laundry on their balconies can be fined from 50 Rials to 5,000 Omani Rials or imprisoned for a minimum of 24 hours and a maximum of 6 months, Muscat.
