 Metta warns to remove news from Facebook if a law is passed in the US. Metta has warned that if a proposed bill is approved in the US Congress, all content related to news on Facebook will be removed.

The bill introduced in the US Congress would make it easier for media organizations to negotiate financial deals with technology companies such as Google and Facebook.



Members of the US House of Representatives are considering making the Journalism Competition and Preservation Act part of the annual defense bill to help the local media industry.

Meta's spokesperson said in a tweet that if this law is passed, the company will consider removing the news. According to the spokesperson, we help media organizations to increase traffic and subscriptions.

A similar law was implemented in Australia in March 2021, after which Facebook shut down the News Feed but then reinstated it.

Under the US bill, if a news item is clicked on Google or Facebook, media organizations will have to pay a share of the advertising revenue.
