Planning official visits to Saudi Arabia and Iran

Official visits to Saudi Arabia and Iran are planned. Saudi Arabia and Iran, which severed diplomatic relations seven years ago, want to resolve their mutual disputes. Saudi King Salman has invited Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi to visit the capital Riyadh. The receipt of the relevant letter from the King has also been confirmed at the Presidential Office in Tehran.

The Iranian presidential office has said that Raisi welcomes the invitation.
The Riyadh government initially did not comment on the matter. Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdullahyan had earlier announced a meeting with his Saudi Arabian counterpart.

"Welcome" to the invitation.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has welcomed Riyadh's invitation to visit.

After years of cutting off diplomatic ties, Saudi Arabia and Iran have recently begun to come closer and both have agreed to restore diplomatic ties. China has played the role of mediator in this reconciliation deal between the two countries.

Under the deal, both countries agreed to reopen their embassies and restore economic ties.

Internationally, the bilateral agreement to restore relations between the two long-time enemies has been widely welcomed.
Is China questioning Iran's territorial integrity?

Proxy wars

Until now, the two countries have been active against each other for influence in the region. Iran claims to play an important role in the region as the protector of Shia Muslims while Saudi Arabia is the protector of Sunnis.

Both these Muslim states have been supporting opposing sides in the civil wars of Syria and Yemen.
Iran and Saudi Arabia are expected to reopen their diplomatic missions within two months and implement security and economic cooperation agreements signed more than 20 years ago.

While there is a positive response to the news of the restoration of diplomatic relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia, on the other hand, Australia has announced the imposition of new financial sanctions on Iran.

Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong announced the travel ban on Iranian entities and individuals for human rights violations on Monday.
Among those targeted for human rights sanctions are four members of Iran's Moral Police, who died in custody after a young Kurdish Iranian woman, Mehsa Amini, was abused. Since this incident, nationwide protests and demonstrations have continued in Iran.
