For the first time, scientists were able to see a star swallowing a whole planet
For the first time in history, scientists have observed a star 'swallowing' a planet whole.Scientists said they saw a star swallowing a Jupiter-sized planet.
This Sun-like star grew so large over billions of years that it was able to swallow whole the planets orbiting around it.
The study, published in the journal Nature, suggests that this gives an indication of what might happen to our Earth when the Sun turns into a supermassive star and swallows four of the Solar System's planets.
According to research, if this is ever possible, it will take 5 billion years.
The star that scientists saw destroying a planet was near the Aquila star cluster and was estimated to be around 10 billion years old.
When the planet was absorbed into the star, a huge wave of light was created while the surrounding storm was visible.
By the way, it was already believed that stars often destroy planets, but this is the first time it has been formally observed.
Researchers discovered the light in 2020 and examined scans from America's Palomar Observatory.
After further observation, the mystery of this light was revealed, namely that a planet had been swallowed by its star.
Scientists have not yet been able to know how many more planets are orbiting this star, but if they are orbiting, this star will swallow them one by one in the next few thousand years.
Researchers believe that this is the case for millions of planets in our universe, and the same will happen in our solar system billions of years from now.
