Regional Police Officer (RPO) Malakand Nasir Sati has said that the Bajaur blast appears to be a suicide but the investigation is on.

Talking to the media, Nasir Sati said that evidence is being collected from the blast site in Khar, the capital of Bajaur.

He said that a search operation has been started in the area after the explosion.

The death toll in the blast at the workers' convention of Jamiat Ulema Islam (JUI-F) has risen to 40 while more than 80 have been injured, many of whom are in critical condition.

Several local office bearers of JUI(F) were killed in the blast. Among them are Amir Ziaullah Jan of Tehsil Khar, General Secretary Hamidullah Haqqani of Tehsil Navagni.

Geo News cameraman Samiullah was also seriously injured in the blast.
