The Council of Common Interests has unanimously approved the results of the seventh census in the country in its fiftieth session under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister yesterday, after which the Election Commission is constitutionally bound to conduct new constituencies before the elections. While in spite of continuous assurances from the government constituencies that the elections will be held on time, it is almost certain that the elections will be delayed for several months in case of new constituencies. Due to the fear of postponement of the elections, in the Senate meeting two days ago, former Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani and Federal Minister Shireen Rehman opposed the holding of elections on the new census.
